Inside D137

Parliament View accommodates 190 apartments. D137 was originally used as the estate agent's office, and is the largest one-bed appartment in the building. Here are a few tips on how everythign works.

Lighting

  • Any lamp plugged into the 5Amp sockets marked "Lights" (in the living room and bedroom) are controllable from the main light switches. Bulb specifications for the lights throughout the flat can be found here.
  • Hot Water

Always leave the main controller in the hallway set to 'WTR ON'. Water is heated overnight using off-peak electricity (Economy 7). If you need additional hot water during the day, use the Water Heater Boost switch, on the right hand side of the water heater cupboard, which will heat an extra half-tank in 2 hours.
  • Heating & Cooling

When the main controller in the hallway is set to 'HTG ON', the heating/cooling system will maintain the temperature between two setpoints. By default, the heating will come on if the temperature drops below 21°C, and the cooling will come on if it rises above 24°C. Pressing the +/- buttons on the room controllers in the living room or bedroom will increase/decrease both the upper and lower setpoint temperatures for that room in increments up to 3°C. The LCD shows the actual room temperature.
  • Bathroom ventilation

The extractor fan in the bathroom ceiling comes on automatically whenever the main light is switched on. If you can't hear the fan working, check that the "Ventaxia" switch in the water heater cupboard (right-hand side) is switched on.

Windows & Blinds

  • The two top windows in the living room and one in the bedroom can be opened. Use the switch on the side of the window frame, the windows will slowly open/close. When raising or lowering the blinds, please place one hand under the bottom blind to take some of the weight. Hauling the blinds up without support will break the mechanism! In the bedroom, please turn the blinds (using the bobbly chain) to ensure they are in line before pulling them across the window using the string (otherwise they will catch on the curtain and be very difficult to move).
  • Kitchen Extractor Fans

There is a fan in the cooker hood which works at 3 speeds, and also a large fan in the top of the kitchen wall, which is turned on via a switch on the wall to the left of the hob. Both are great for removing cooking smells from the flat.
  • Waste Disposal Unit

The switch for the waste disposal unit can be found to the right of the sink. Please don't put fat and oil down the unit, as it will block the pipes. It's important keep water flowing through the unit when it's running. It's also good to run the unit at least once per week to avoid it corroding/jamming.
  • Electricity Meter

The electricity meter is in a cupboard on the first floor. Ask the conceirge for the key. You will find the meter for D137 at the bottom of the cupboard. It's worth taking a torch! The meter was previously (incorrectly) marked D138, the '8' has now been overwritten with a '7'. Press the round 'Display' button to cycle through the information available, you will need the 1. Low and 2. High readings.

A stitch in time...

Please do get in touch if you have any questions issues or problems. D137 was my own residence for many years, and the apartment remains my pride and joy. I maintain the flat myself, and I'm always keen to fix niggles before they become problems for my tenants. It's never a problem to drop round, even just to replace a lightbulb, so please don't hesitate to get in touch if there's anything you think I might be able to help with.
