Borthwood Copse (National Trust) used to be part of a much larger Medieval hunting forest. It is a delightful spot to wander amongst ancient oak and beech trees, sunny glades and chestnut and hazel coppice. You may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a red squirrel.

Isle of Wight Airport Sandown (EGHN) is located 1.2 miles west of Sandown town. With radio coverage 09:00 to 17:00 local time or sunset (whichever is earlier) every day. The 'Island Bistro' is open from 11-17 Mon-Fri & 11-17:30 Sat-Sun. The airfield's current operational status is displayed on the website (link below).

Walking Route

A gentle circular walk giving some good opportunities to spot a Red Squirrel. Paths wind through ancient oak woodland with sunny glades.

To join the walk: Leave the airfield via the main entrance, turning right into Scotchell’s Brook Lane. Turn left onto the signposted footpath right next to the entrance to the Cheverton Copse Holiday Park. Follow the footpath through the hedge in the far corner of the field, and continue ahead following the hedgerow. After 80m take a left turn onto a footpath along the edge of another field, with woodland on your right. At the bottom of the dip, take the path on the right into Borthwood Copse..
